What is the Oh Contraire Education Grant?
The Oh Contraire Education Grant is a cash stipend intended to encourage or assist members of the Oh Contraire community to participate in workshops or other educational events related to traditional dance and music. The education fund is self-supporting through fund-raising efforts, donations and local business sponsorship. The grant program is part of Oh Contraire’s continuing commitment to foster new talent and generate informed participation and positive energy in our local dance events.
Who is eligible?
Eligibility will be subjectively determined by the Oh Contraire steering committee and will be based on regular and demonstrable participation in Oh Contraire dances or other events. Any actively participating member of the Oh Contraire dance community is eligible for consideration.
What is an appropriate event?
Any event specifically related to traditional dance and music that has a clearly stated educational intent or component is appropriate for funding. This would include events such as workshops in music, dance, audio engineering, grant writing etc. Primarily recreational events such as dance weekends would probably not be funded unless very specific networking agendas were involved. Appropriate events should be educational and directly related to Oh Contraire’s principle activities.
How much money can be awarded?
Individual grants up to $75.00 may be awarded based on the total cost and relevance of the event. The number of grants awarded per year will depend on the availability of money in the education fund. Applications will be approved or denied and individual stipend amounts set by the Education Grant sub-committee. Denials will include an explanation of the decision but are not subject to appeal.
What is expected of the grantee?
In keeping with the mission of the education grant program, receiving members are asked to share the benefits of their educational experience in some manner with the dance community at large. We anticipate that our third Friday dance will be an opportunity to share that new waltz move, fiddle tune, etc. The applicant will determine the means of sharing their experience. Use your imagination and have fun with it!
